How Personalised Education Overcomes the Challenges of a Modern Curriculum

Both locally and around the world, classrooms are burgeoned by more students than they can accommodate. This has led to strained resources, overworked educators and a reduced amount of one-on-one time any single student gets. The result is a decline in the quality of education students are receiving. That isn’t just a burden on the family unit but on the economy and future of a country.

The internet’s prolific adoption rate is changing that, making more educational resources available more of the time, for less money and less hassle. That’s the strength of personalised, online education. But what exactly are the benefits? Let’s start with perhaps the most important strength of personalised education.

Affordability is the crux of the matter

The inconvenient truth is that a good education is often an expensive endeavour – the more expensive the better. It’s why private education so often produces a higher proportion of university students, relative to their size, than public schools.

One of the reasons for private education’s much higher success rate is that the higher tuition fees of private schools means that classrooms need fewer students. And study after study has demonstrated the benefits of smaller classes and more one-on-one time with educators. But technology is changing this unsustainable and unnecessarily exclusive trend.

By digitising learning materials, making it easier to distribute and automating a lot of the syllabus, personalised learning does away with the exorbitant cost that comes with maintaining the facilities that traditional schools require. That saving doesn’t just lower the cost of education, but means allocating more educators to fewer students is no longer prohibitively expensive, meaning students get more personalised guidance from educators.

It’s also of major benefit to students who require assistance with subjects they’re struggling with. Where before extramural tutelage could cost an absolute fortune, it’s never been more affordable with online education.

It’s never been easier, and that’s important

Going back to the student who struggles with maths. Is the cost of using a tutor the only factor that might prohibit them from getting the assistance they require? Not at all. First, they need to find a competent tutor, which can be a difficult and costly process, and then they need to find the time to facilitate their session, which can be impossible in an already packed schedule.

What if all the help a student needed could be accessed from a smartphone, or really any device with an internet connection? That means access to educational resources and guidance from educators on the bus or train, at home or at a local coffee shop, or anywhere really – all at the convenience of a touch of a button.

It suits a modern life

It’s particularly important because our lives, including those of students, are more mobile than ever. Rarely do we get the time to study as students once did, not if we are to meet the commitments of our contemporary world. It’s also a more demanding, highly competitive world, where falling too far behind can set a child back for years into their future. Personalised education not only helps prevent that, but helps students with a career path in mind, or who are just testing the waters, to focus and hone specific subjects beyond the bounds of the standardised curriculum.

Those are just some of the benefits a personalised, online education provides. And its results are easy to predict: empowered, confident students; less financial strain on families; a growing economy; and more future leaders to effect positive change in our country and for the lives of others.
