7 Great Study Tips

Posted on May 23, 2017 by Top Dog Education

1. Write it down
Take notes by hand rather than typing them. Typing can be faster, but writing gives you more time to process and remember the information.

2. Mind maps
Mind maps are a great way to understand how everything is connected together. Seeing everything in a visual format makes more sense and helps understand how the content is related.

3. Tell someone about it
Role-play and become a teacher. Now explain what you are studying to someone without notes. This is a great method for discovering how much you really know about a subject.

4. Recap your notes before going to bed
Go to bed early and read your notes. Sleep helps consolidate your days information, but make sure you do it and still have enough time for a good nights sleep. Exhaustion is not a friend of mental processing.

5. 30 minute sessions
Our brains effectively absorb information for 30 minutes, and we might be able remember longer study sessions, but for the most effective study sessions and maximum information retention, 30 minute sessions are recommended with at least 10 minute break between.

6. The whole is equal to the sum of its parts
Break it down. Split the study material up into smaller sections. This will help make a huge tasks seem a lot more manageable and doable.

7. Sit at a desk
Couches are for relaxing and beds are for sleeping.
